An emergency response has reportedly been underway following a fire at the St. James Theatre in New York, with firefighters and rescue personnel responding to the reported incident.
Emergency crews were reportedly dispatched after the fire was reported at the theater. Firefighters are working to assess the situation, identify the source of the blaze and determine whether the fire has affected any part of the building.
Details surrounding the incident remain limited. It is not immediately clear what caused the fire, how extensive it is, or whether flames or smoke have spread beyond the initial area.
A theater fire can require a substantial emergency response because of the size and layout of the building, as well as the potential presence of staff, visitors and performers. Firefighters may need to conduct searches, secure affected areas and ensure that everyone inside has safely exited if an evacuation is required.
The emergency response may also create temporary disruptions around the theater as fire trucks, ambulances and other emergency vehicles operate near the scene. Members of the public are advised to avoid the immediate area and follow directions from emergency personnel.
Information regarding injuries has not been confirmed in the available reports. Emergency medical teams may remain nearby while firefighters determine whether anyone requires medical attention.
The cause of the reported fire has also not been established. Once firefighters have brought the situation under control, investigators may examine the scene and speak with witnesses to determine how the incident began.
Because this is an active emergency situation, details may change as authorities provide additional information. Reports circulating online should be treated cautiously until confirmed by official sources.
Further updates are expected as emergency crews continue their response and officials provide verified information about the extent of the fire, possible injuries, property damage and the status of the theater.
