Sloane Caroline Grodnick and Lora “Lori” Grodnick have been identified in reports as two of the three people found dead inside a residence on Wild Azalea Lane in Skillman, New Jersey, following a welfare check by Montgomery Township police.

Officers entered the home on October 2 after concerns were raised about the occupants. According to The Montgomery News, a neighbor had become worried after noticing a large amount of mail in the mailbox and receiving no response from the Grodnick family’s calls or messages. Police had attempted to contact the residents during an earlier welfare check on October 1.

When officers entered the property on Friday evening, they discovered two adult women with apparent gunshot wounds and an adult man who appeared to have suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound. A firearm was reportedly found in the man’s possession. All three were pronounced dead at the scene.

Local reporting identified the women as Lora Grodnick and her daughter, Sloane Caroline Grodnick. Lora, also known as Lori, was 62, while Sloane was 24, according to records documenting the incident.

Sloane had graduated from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2024 and was enrolled in a master’s of fine arts program at the Rhode Island School of Design. Earlier in her life, she was recognized for organizing efforts to help another child after reading about an abused girl in Trenton.

The investigation is being handled by the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit in cooperation with Montgomery Township police and other investigative agencies. Authorities said postmortem examinations would be conducted to positively identify the deceased and establish the cause and manner of death.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation. Officials have also emphasized that there is no continuing threat to the wider community.

The deaths have brought shock and grief to the Montgomery Township area, while friends, relatives and neighbors await further information from investigators.
