Berkeley Shooting Today Active Shooter-Heavy police respond to shooting in University of University of California, Berkeley

A heavy police response was reported Friday, October 2, 2026, in the Berkeley area following reports of a shooting. However, current reporting places the confirmed shooting on Panoramic Way in the Oakland hills, near the Berkeley city line, rather than on the University of California, Berkeley campus.

Berkeley police assisted Oakland police after reports of gunfire shortly before 11 a.m. Two people were reportedly struck by gunfire, and Oakland police are leading the investigation. Early reports indicated that at least one victim had died, although authorities had not released additional details at the time of reporting.

There is currently no verified information connecting the shooting to the UC Berkeley campus. The university’s official emergency page directs students and staff to WarnMe text alerts, the UC Berkeley Safety App and official university communications for confirmed campus emergency information.

Students and members of the public near the area should follow instructions from law enforcement and avoid areas where officers are conducting an investigation. Further information about the victims, circumstances of the shooting and whether anyone has been arrested is expected as authorities continue their investigation.
