Detroit Shooting Today-Large police presence reported after mass shooting in Detroit, Michigan

A mass shooting in Detroit, Michigan, has left three people dead and four others injured, prompting a major police investigation and renewed concern over violence connected to illegal after-hours establishments.

The shooting occurred around 7:20 a.m. September 27 at a residence in the 14800 block of Prest Street on Detroit’s west side, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office. Police responding to a reported shooting found three men suffering from gunshot wounds in a vacant lot near the residence. All three were pronounced dead at the scene. Four additional victims were wounded and taken to a hospital for treatment.

Authorities identified the deceased as Ansley Harris Jr., 45, Donahvan Gray, 36, both of Detroit, and Kevin Scott, 63, of Belleville. The surviving victims included two women and two men, according to prosecutors.

Investigators say the shooting followed an altercation at an illicit after-hours party. Prosecutors allege that a confrontation involving several people escalated outside the residence before the accused shooter allegedly pulled out a handgun and fired multiple rounds.

Detroit police arrested Christopher Rafael Gouch, 25, on September 29. Prosecutors subsequently charged him with three counts of first-degree murder, four counts of assault with intent to murder and seven counts of felony firearm. He was arraigned and remanded to jail.

The case remains under investigation, with authorities continuing to gather evidence and interview witnesses. Gouch’s attorney has indicated that he claims he intervened during the confrontation and was acting in self-defense, while the prosecution’s allegations remain subject to court proceedings.

The incident has also renewed calls for enforcement against illegal after-hours venues in Detroit. Authorities have emphasized the dangers associated with such establishments and encouraged residents to report suspected illegal activity.
